UVC released its newest generation of air purifiers upgraded with HEPA filter, designed to be more effective than previous models.
Previous UVC Clean Air Systems model feature filtration, but the new model includes upgraded HEPA filtration to capture even smaller particles and gases than ever before, all without releasing ozone or any harmful byproduct.
But what is a HEPA filter?
HEPA is a type of pleated mechanical air filter.
It is an acronym for “High efficiency particulate air [filter]”. This type of air filter can eliminate at least 99.90 percent of particulates (like pollen and dust) that are 0.3 microns or larger.
These new air purifiers with an addition of HEPA filter are meant to capture 99.97 percent of particles that are as small as 0.3 microns — so raising that purported efficiency by 7 hundredths of a percent.
“Air cleaners that are based on filtration with a HEPA filter are likely to be most effective.” According to the Department of Education of Ireland Room Guidance for Schools – May 2021.
Can HEPA Air Purifiers prevents airborne COVID transmission?
Yes. Air purifiers with HEPA filtration capture particles the size of (and far smaller than) the virus that causes COVID-19.
This means HEPA purifiers would efficiently capture any aerosolized droplets of saliva and mucus that contain viruses, that are drawn into their filters.
In its advice on cleaning and disinfecting rooms during the pandemic, the CDC recognizes as much: “When used properly, air purifiers can help reduce airborne contaminants, including viruses, in a home, office or any confined space.”
An air purifier should be use as a protective measure, we recommend that you also continue to follow other advices, including social distancing, wearing a face covering, washing your hands frequently, and treating frequently touched surfaces with disinfectants.
